New York – The statement was delivered by His Excellency Ambassador Omar bin Saeed Al Kathiri, Oman’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, during a United Nations Security Council session on “The Situation in the Middle East, including the Palestinian Question.”
Addressing the Council, His Excellency Ambassador Al Kathiri said: The Middle East continues to face various challenges since the establishment of the United Nations, especially the Palestinian issue and the inalienable rights of the Palestinian people, in which the Gaza Strip has become one of the most horrific scenes of humanitarian disasters due to the brutal practices of Israeli aggression against thousands of innocent civilians.
He warned against international failure to halt this aggression, as the daily massacres, mass starvation, and systematic targeting of civilians and infrastructure, including hospitals, schools, and shelters, constitute a flagrant violation of all international norms and conventions and constitute a crime against humanity.

Oman expressed deep appreciation for the efforts of United Nations agencies, particularly the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA), and condemned attempts to undermine the agency’s work. The Sultanate called on the international community to ensure continued funding and protection for UNRWA staff, who are delivering life-saving aid under the most dangerous conditions.
His Excellency Ambassador Al Kathiri emphasized that the credibility of the Security Council is at stake, stating that it cannot demand adherence to its resolutions in some crises while ignoring the Palestinian issue. He specifically referenced Resolution 2735 (2024), which called for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza.
Reaffirming its unwavering support for the Palestinian cause, Oman called for full UN membership for the State of Palestine as a crucial step toward justice and peace. The statement also praised ongoing mediation efforts by Egypt, Qatar, and the United States to halt the violence and achieve a lasting truce. Oman expressed support for Egypt’s reconstruction plan in coordination with the Palestinian Authority, backed by Arab and Islamic nations.
Additionally, Oman acknowledged the diplomatic efforts of France and Saudi Arabia and expressed hope for the success of the proposed international peace conference aimed at implementing the two-state solution.
The Sultanate reiterated that the only path to lasting peace in the Middle East lies in ending the Israeli occupation of all Arab territories, including the Syrian Golan Heights and Lebanese lands, and ensuring the establishment of an independent Palestinian state within the June 4, 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital. “Oman believes that regional stability can only be achieved through justice, legitimate rights, and the implementation of international resolutions,” the statement concluded.
