DUBAI: The new system, expected to launch within a year, aims to streamline access to essential services across key sectors.
The Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs, and Port Security (ICP) is spearheading the initiative to expand the use of e-Emirates IDs, particularly in industries such as banking, healthcare, hospitality, and telecommunications. Once implemented, the digital ID will enable residents to verify their identity through facial recognition and biometric data—without presenting a physical card.
The announcement came during a recent Federal National Council (FNC) session, where member Adnan Al Hammadi raised concerns about the ongoing reliance on physical Emirates IDs. He pointed out that despite the UAE’s rapid digital advancements, residents are still required to show physical IDs for services like healthcare, banking, and hotel check-ins—posing logistical challenges and delaying service access.

Responding to the concerns, Minister of State for Federal National Council Affairs, Abdul Rahman Al Owais, confirmed that the e-Emirates ID is already active for many services. He reassured that the ICP is working to prioritize its integration in the critical sectors mentioned by the FNC.
