MUSCAT : Anticipation is sky-high as ‘L2: Empuraan’, starring Mohanlal and directed by Prithviraj Sukumaran, is set to hit theatres worldwide on March 27, with the first-ever show in Oman scheduled at 4:30 am at VOX Cinemas. The film is also making history as the first Malayalam movie to release in IMAX, marking a major milestone for the industry.
Speaking to renowned film critic Baradwaj Rangan, Mohanlal shared his excitement: “We were surprised that people were waiting for this film. Let the film do wonders. We always wondered why we couldn’t make films like Hollywood and Prithviraj has done beautiful homework on it, and everything we’ve given to this film is visible on screen.”
The film, a sequel to the blockbuster Lucifer, promises high-octane action, political drama, and epic storytelling, with a star-studded cast that includes Manju Warrier and Tovino Thomas.

‘Empuraan’ is already rewriting box office records with advance bookings crossing ₹50 crore worldwide, a feat never before achieved by a Malayalam film. According to industry tracker Sacnilk:
Day 1 pre-sales crossed ₹35 crore
Opening weekend bookings expected to touch ₹70 crore
Global opening day collection projected at ₹40–₹45 crore
In Germany, the film’s advance bookings have even surpassed the lifetime collections of ‘Pushpa 2’, starring Allu Arjun.
With $4 million in overseas pre-sales and ₹23+ crore in domestic bookings, ‘Empuraan’ is poised to become a game-changer for Malayalam cinema on the global stage.
