Turin: Omani athlete Hussam bin Nasser Al Ameri delivered a standout performance in speed skating, securing the nation’s first gold medal of the event. Meanwhile, Al Baraa bin Malik Al Battashi earned a bronze medal in cross-country skiing, and Retaj bint Sultan Al Salmiya claimed another bronze in speed skating, adding to Oman’s impressive tally.

Speed skating coach Safwan bin Abdullah Al Balushi emphasized the dedication behind the team’s achievement and how reaching this level required intense training, focus, and overcoming challenges.

Faisal bin Hamoud Al Harrasi, Deputy Head of Mission, praised the efforts of both players and coaches, noting that these wins reflect their hard work and determination. He added that such achievements inspire people with intellectual disabilities to engage in sports, proving that determination knows no limits.

Oman’s Special Olympics delegation comprises six athletes with intellectual disabilities, along with six coaches and four administrators. The team is competing in snow running, cross-country skiing, and speed skating, marking an important milestone for the country’s participation in winter sports.
