China imposes 10-15% duties on American agriculture after Trump hikes tariffs

BEIJING : The new tariffs target key American agricultural exports, including soybeans, meat, and grains, a move that directly impacts U.S. farmers, who heavily rely on China as a major export market.

Beijing’s decision follows U.S. President Donald Trump’s executive order yesterday, which raised tariffs on Chinese goods from 10% to 20%. The Trump administration justified the move by citing China’s failure to curb fentanyl trafficking, escalating tensions between the world’s two largest economies.

The new tariffs are expected to increase costs for American businesses and consumers, adding to economic strain on both sides. Analysts warn that the growing trade dispute could disrupt global supply chains and send ripples through international financial markets, which are now bracing for the fallout.

Trump further signaled a hardline trade stance, stating that Mexico and Canada would not be exempt from tariffs, reinforcing concerns of broader economic uncertainty.
