MUSCAT : ABA Oman International School recently hosted an engaging and insightful Careers Day for its Grade 10 students and parents, providing them with valuable exposure to a wide range of career pathways. Led by University Counselor Ms. Jinane Helou, the event featured interactive sessions, workshops, and panel discussions designed to inspire and inform students as they explore their future ambitions.

The Careers Day brought together a diverse lineup of speakers from various fields, including STEM, Creative Arts, Medicine, Big Pharma, Entrepreneurship, Engineering, AI, Robotics, Business, Finance, Communication, Media, International Relations, Law, Psychology, and Sports Science. These professionals, including parents, teachers, and senior students, shared their career journeys, industry insights, and advice, helping students gain a deeper understanding of different professions and the pathways to success. Throughout the day, students participated in a series of interactive sessions, including lectures, workshops, and Q&A discussions.

Notable speakers included Stella De Silva, International Consultant, who provided insights on building a strong LinkedIn presence and professional online profile, and RJ Huda from Virgin Radio, who shared her experience in radio programming and on-air careers.

Parents from the ABA community also led valuable sessions for students. Clauss Niazi conducted a workshop on CV and résumé writing, Ruby Saharan spoke about making an impact in healthcare, Sehej Buttar shared her journey from biotech to blockchain, and Ashmeed Hussain provided insights into career development in the oil and gas sector. Other insightful sessions included Joana Osta discussing career aspirations, Tamer Dabbous covering the field of dentistry, and Anjum and Sadiq Khan discussing entrepreneurship and hybrid careers.

Additionally, ABA faculty member Kirk McCullough encouraged students to reflect on finding their calling across various industries, while Jay Rutledge shared his expertise on the science of sport.

The event concluded with a dynamic student-led panel discussion, where Grade 11 and 12 students shared their experiences and insights on IBDP subject choices, career exploration, university applications, and future aspirations in a session led by Ms. Samantha Cole, DP Coordinator.

Some of the speakers also shared the advice they wished they had received in Grade 10 regarding career paths, course selection, time management, overcoming distractions, the importance of sleep, and maintaining a balanced lifestyle. This platform provided younger students with the opportunity to ask questions and gain valuable, real-world insights from their senior peers.

Reflecting on the success of the event, Ms. Jinane Helou expressed her gratitude to all speakers, panelists, and volunteers who contributed their time and expertise. “Careers Day is an invaluable opportunity for our students to learn from professionals in different industries and gain insights that will help them make informed decisions about their future. We are incredibly grateful to our community members for inspiring the next generation,” she said.
