Muscat – This initiative is part of the airport’s commitment to reducing carbon emissions and achieving the goal of net-zero emissions by 2050.
The launch ceremony was patronised by His Excellency Dr. Abdullah bin Ali Al Amri, Chairman of the Environment Authority, who emphasised the importance of this initiative in reaching net-zero goals. He explained that Oman is at the forefront of nations, making substantial efforts towards carbon dioxide emissions reduction, and highlighted the country’s role in fulfilling its “nationally determined” contributions to the global climate agenda.
H.E. Dr. Al Amri also referred to the Environment Authority’s recent launch of the “Neutrality 3” initiative in December 2024, which targets reducing carbon emissions in various sectors, including energy, industry, transportation, and buildings. This initiative underscores Oman’s commitment to reaching net-zero emissions across multiple industries.
Eng. Hamoud bin Musabah Al Alawi, Acting CEO of Oman Airports, shared that the organization’s efforts are focused on supporting both environmental and economic sustainability. “This initiative not only contributes to reducing carbon emissions but also improves air quality within the airport environment,” said Eng. Al Alawi. He further explained that Oman Airports is actively working to promote the adoption of electric vehicles and other sustainable practices throughout its operations.
The launch of EV charging stations at Muscat International Airport is a key component of Oman Airports’ broader strategy to transform the aviation sector into an environmentally friendly industry. Eng. Al Alawi also mentioned that the upcoming initiatives, including the establishment of a sustainable fuel production station for aircraft, will further support the country’s goal of reducing carbon emissions in aviation.
