MUSCAT : As part of its commitment to strengthening collaborative relations with various institutions, experts, and specialists in the energy and electricity sector worldwide, and providing platforms for knowledge and experience exchange, Oman Electricity Transmission Company (OETC) and GCC CIGRE recently hosted the Steering Committee Meetings of the International Council for Large Electric Systems (CIGRE) and the GCC Regional Committee for Large Electric System (GCC CIGRE). The meetings took place from 3rd to 5th February 2025, and attended by chairmen, CEOs, and representatives from various Omani authorities and institutions, alongside more than 20 members of the CIGRE International Steering Committee from different countries.
The visit program included a series of meetings with key sector officials and stakeholders, as well as field visits to Omani factories, Grid Stations, and specialized centers. A key session held at OETC provided an overview of Oman’s and GCC’s electricity sector, its developments, structure, and the company’s role within the sector. Additionally, the visit featured a tour in the OETC’s specialized centers, to gain insights into Oman’s experience in managing the electricity sector and to learn from global best practices.
Eng. Ahmed Abdullah Al Rahbi, Corporate Affairs’ General Manager at OETC and Oman’s Representative in GCC CIGRE, emphasized the significance of such meetings and periodic engagements with global institutions, experts, and specialists to ensure that Oman remains up to date with sector advancements and innovations in various areas while applying the best industry practices.

It is worth mentioning that OETC, a member of Nama Group, is the only company responsible for the transmission and control of electricity across the Sultanate’s network. The electricity is transmitted from production stations to distributed load centers in the governorates. The transmission network operates at a voltage of 132kV and above to cover most of the governorates in the Sultanate, whether in the north or the south. Furthermore, OETC manages the interconnection lines between Oman and the GCC interconnection network, which operates at a voltage of 220kV.
