Muscat: Speaking as co-patron of the initiative alongside His Highness Sayyid Theyazin bin Haitham bin Tarik Al Said, Minister of Culture, Sports and Youth, the Prince highlighted the deep historical ties between the United Kingdom and Oman while underscoring the critical need for sustainable development.

In his address, the Prince expressed his admiration for Oman’s rich natural heritage and resilience in the face of climate challenges. “I am honoured to join His Highness as co-patron of the Jewel of Arabia expedition. A journey that draws on the long history of connection between the UK and Oman,” he said.

Recalling fond memories of his 2019 visit to the Sultanate, the Prince described Oman’s coastline, abundant seas, and lush landscapes as a testament to its unique natural wealth. However, he also acknowledged the country’s increasing vulnerability to climate change and human activity. “Oman, like the United Kingdom, is increasingly affected by climate change and extreme weather events,” he noted. “Finding a sustainable, balanced way forward is crucial for our future and the wellbeing of all.”

The Jewel of Arabia expedition aims to catalyze scientific research and innovation while celebrating Oman’s biodiversity and sustainability efforts. It will spotlight the growing number of young Omanis actively working to protect their natural heritage. The Prince also emphasized the vital role of youth in addressing environmental challenges, referencing his work with the Earthshot Prize. “Young people today have the passion, persistence, curiosity, and technology needed to affect real change,” he said.

The Prince expressed hope that the initiative would inspire Omani youth to continue building a sustainable and biodiverse future for their country and the planet, while fostering connections between Oman and the UK.
