NEW DELHI : The batting maestro, who captained the franchise from 2013 to 2021, is said to be in advanced discussions with RCB to retake the reins, as 40-year-old Faf du Plessis, the team’s current skipper, nears the end of his playing career.
The celebrated batsman has been a constant figure for RCB since the Indian Premier League’s inception in 2008, amassing a record-breaking 8,004 runs across 252 matches with an impressive strike rate of 131.97. Kohli’s time as captain included a peak in 2016, when RCB made it to the finals, only to lose to Sunrisers Hyderabad.
Under Du Plessis, the team achieved mixed results, reaching the playoffs twice in three seasons and finishing sixth on one occasion. However, with Kohli’s vast experience and record as the IPL’s top run-scorer, RCB appears ready to bank on his leadership once again.

RCB has also been exploring other potential player options, reportedly seeking Gujarat Titans’ Shubman Gill and showing interest in Delhi Capitals’ Rishabh Pant should he become available.
