MUSCAT : With over 80 researchers and specialists from more than 20 countries participating MENA Entrepreneurship Conference, hosted by the University of Nizwa in collaboration with the Public Authority for Small and Medium Enterprises Development, the Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the University of Technology and Applied Sciences in Ibri, and Bahrain’s Royal University for Women, opened today.
The event is set to explore key issues within the entrepreneurial ecosystem, with discussions revolving around innovation, challenges, and research-backed insights from experts worldwide.
The conference brings together over 80 leading thinkers and specialists, presenting nearly 100 papers across 10 distinct themes that address topics such as the future of entrepreneurship in the MENA region, scientific research’s role in innovation, and the challenges entrepreneurs face. Dr. Salem bin Saeed Al Abri, Dean of the College of Economics and Information Systems at the University of Nizwa, underscored the conference’s mission to “explore modern trends in entrepreneurship and deepen our understanding of challenges and opportunities.” He emphasized the significant impact entrepreneurship has on national economies, from contributing to GDP to fostering innovation and job creation.

Dr. Nasser bin Mohammed Al Kathiri, Dean of the College of Economics and Business Administration at the University of Technology and Applied Sciences in Ibri, highlighted the conference’s role in empowering young entrepreneurs and promoting economic sustainability.
Following the keynote address by Dr. Raja Susana Binti Qaam of the University of Kelantan Malaysia on “Skills Dynamics and Entrepreneurship Growth in Southeast Asia and the MENA Region,” participants engaged in three insightful panel discussions. Topics included the role of artificial intelligence in digital entrepreneurship, the impact of government support on innovation, and strategies for transforming lab research into market-ready products.
The event’s opening concluded with honors presented to distinguished participants, sponsors, and supporters and His Excellency also launched the fifth edition of the national report from the Global Entrepreneurship Monitor.
