MUSCAT : During the 15th regular meeting chaired by H.E. Khalid Hilal Al Maawali, Chairman of the Shura Council and attended by H.E Ahmed Mohamed Nasser Al Nadabi, Secretary General of Majlis A’Shura, the council members emphasized the critical need to understand Oman’s societal composition, particularly income levels and eligibility for assistance, to enhance the quality of life and living standards for all citizens.
The meeting focused on strategies to provide additional support for job seekers, highlighting the importance of adapting the social protection system to meet the evolving needs of the workforce. The discussions aimed to ensure that the system effectively addresses the challenges faced by those seeking employment.
The council reviewed the work plans of the standing committees for the upcoming second annual session (2024-2025) of the council’s Tenth Term (2023-2027). These plans include providing opinions on and studying draft laws related to social protection, particularly focusing on initiatives that could benefit job seekers and align with national development goals.
In line with Article 55 of the Oman Council Law, which requires annual reports from ministers on project implementations, the council evaluated responses from the Minister of Labour. This included clarification regarding the six-month eligibility period for job security allowances and ongoing efforts to facilitate job placements for beneficiaries.
