Muscat Stock Exchange records new gains ahead of OQEP listing

The Muscat Stock Exchange (MSX) recorded new gains last week as the main index rose to 4,825 points, up for the third week in a row

Muscat – These gains came ahead of the listing of OQ Exploration and Production, which is expected to enrich the stock exchange’s trading when it is listed for trading on October 28.

During the past week, the main index climbed by 25 points, driven primarily by strong performance in the financial sector, which gained 76 points. The industrial sector index rose by 13 points, while the Shariah index increased to 436 points, up by more than two points. The services sector index saw a modest rise of less than one point.

The MSX also recorded an increase in its market value, which reached RO 24.742 billion by the close of trading on Thursday, reflecting a weekly gain of RO 6.4 million. Trading activity also picked up, with the number of shares traded rising by 12.5 percent and trading value increasing by 4.4 percent from RO 12 million to RO 12.5 million.

However, the bonds and sukuk market experienced a decline, with trading value dropping from RO 5.2 million to about RO 1.5 million. Investors focused on Ominvest’s mandatory convertible bonds, which closed at 90 baisas after trading 15.3 million bonds worth RO 1.4 million.

OQ Gas Networks led the trading activity, accounting for 20.3 percent of the total trading value with transactions worth RO 2,864,000. Bank Muscat followed with RO 2,223,000 in trades, while the National Bank of Oman ranked third with RO 1,534,000.
Last week, 30 securities saw price increases, while 30 others declined, and 18 remained stable. The Omani Education and Training Investment Company share recorded the highest gain, rising 9.8 percent to close at 657 baisas. The National Industrial Detergents Company share increased by 9.2 percent to close at 710 baisas, and units of the Jabal Investment Fund rose 8.1 percent, closing at 106 baisas.
In contrast, shares of Financial Centre “Fincorp” were the largest losers, plummeting 16.2 percent to 36 baisas. Gulf Hotels – Oman shares fell 10 percent to RO 3 and 420 baisas, while Muscat Gases shares declined 7.4 percent, closing at 100 baisas.
In corporate news, the National Bank of Oman announced the successful issuance of additional Tier 1 capital bonds worth US$150.4 million, compliant with Basel III regulations. The proceeds will enhance the bank’s Tier 1 capital base and support overall capital adequacy, alongside general corporate purposes.
Voltamp Energy revealed a joint venture agreement with Gulf Technical Services Company in Saudi Arabia to meet the growing demand for power transformer repair services. The initial investment is approximately OMR 8.4 million, with the facility located in the Dammam Industrial Area expected to commence operations in the first quarter of 2026.
