Muscat – Eng. Khalfan bin Masoud Al Naabi, Director General of Urban Planning at the Ministry of Housing and Urban Planning, explained that the city’s strategic policies prioritize sustainability and balance human needs with available natural resources. The design of Sultan Haitham City aims to achieve these goals, contributing to improved urban planning and minimizing environmental impact.
Architect Al Hassan bin Ali Al Shakiri highlighted the city’s twelve foundational features focused on sustainability in both design and operation. The city’s layout will consider wind patterns to lower temperatures, promoting a walkable environment. Solar energy will serve as a primary power source, and smart technologies will be integrated into building operations.

Eng. Hamad bin Salem Al Mughdari, CEO of Al Maha Petroleum Products Marketing Company, noted that the project aligns with Oman Vision 2040’s environmental goals. Efforts are underway to install electric vehicle charging stations throughout the city, further supporting its commitment to renewable energy and sustainable development.

The Ministry of Housing and Urban Planning has outlined plans for a “comfortable” urban environment. This includes natural shading from trees, strategically placed green spaces, and thoughtful building density to enhance liveability. The city will feature an accessible road network, community services within walking distance, and a comprehensive internal transportation system that accommodates various modes of travel, including public transport and dedicated pedestrian and bicycle paths.

The city’s smart planning is designed to align with its natural surroundings, utilizing technological advancements to enhance everyday life for residents. By combining modern innovations with luxurious amenities, Sultan Haitham City aims to be an attractive destination, embodying a balance of comfort, convenience, and environmental responsibility.
