MUMBAI : Coldplay has announced that they will retire after releasing their 12th studio album, according to frontman Chris Martin. The Grammy-winning band, known for hits like Yellow and Sky Full of Stars, will bow out after their final album, with Martin confirming that this move will allow the musicians to explore personal interests beyond the band. In a recent interview with Apple Music 1, Martin explained, “We are only going to do 12 proper albums, and that’s real. Having that limit means the quality control is so high right now.”

The band’s 10th album, Moon Music, is set to be released on October 4, 2024, with their final two albums to follow soon after. Martin reflected on other iconic artists with limited catalogs, such as Bob Marley and The Beatles, stating that it’s important for Coldplay to maintain their creative integrity with this limit. Despite the end of their run, Martin confirmed that he and his bandmates – Jonny Buckland, Guy Berryman, and Will Champion – will continue collaborating on other projects.

Meanwhile, excitement is reaching fever pitch for Coldplay’s upcoming concert in Mumbai, slated for January 2025. The band’s three scheduled shows at the D.Y. Patil Sports Stadium on January 18, 19, and 21 will mark their return to India after eight years. However, controversy has marred the event after tickets sold out within minutes, only to reappear on the black market at exorbitant prices.

BookMyShow’s CEO, Ashish Hemrajani, and the company’s technical head were summoned by the Mumbai Police over a potential ticketing scam after complaints of fake tickets and price gouging surfaced. Advocate Amit Vyas, who filed the complaint, accused the online platform of enabling black market sales through scalpers. While Hemrajani failed to appear for questioning on September 27, the Mumbai Police has summoned him again on September 30 as the investigation unfolds.

Despite the scandal, Coldplay’s Mumbai concert remains one of the most anticipated musical events of 2025.
