DOHA: The United States on Wednesday approved Qatar’s inclusion in the Visa Waiver Program (VWP), enabling Qatari citizens to travel to the US without a visa for tourism or business visits of up to 90 days.

This marks the first time an Arab country has been admitted into the program.

In a joint statement, both the countries announced the visa waiver will take effect by 1 December, following updates to the Electronic System for Travel Authorization.

In response, Qatar will lengthen the existing visa-free stay for US citizens visiting Doha from 30 to 90 days, starting from 1 October.

In a statement US Secretary of State Antony Blinken said: “The agreement will deepen our strategic partnership and enhance the flow of people and commerce between our two countries.”
