DHAKA : In a statement filled with emotion and foresight, the 37-year-old all-rounder also expressed his desire to retire from Test cricket following the upcoming home series against South Africa next month. Shakib announced just a day before Bangladesh’s second Test against India at the Green Park Stadium in Kanpur, marking a significant moment for both him and the team.

The cricketer, who has long been a cornerstone of Bangladesh’s national team, hopes to conclude his Test career at the iconic Shere Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur.

Shakib has had an impressive run in his cricket career. Since his debut in 2007, he has played in 70 Tests, accumulating 4,600 runs and taking 242 wickets. He remains the only Bangladeshi bowler to surpass the 200-wicket mark in Tests, with a personal best of 7/36. In T20Is, he scored 2,551 runs and took 149 wickets, while in ODIs, he amassed 7,570 runs and 317 wickets over 247 matches.

Looking ahead, Shakib has confirmed his intention to retire from ODI cricket after the 2025 Champions Trophy.
