Deadly mine explosion in Iran kills 51 people

Iran’s state media has reported that the explosion at the Tabas mine in eastern Iran has killed at least 51 people and injured 20.

IRAN : According to the official IRNA news agency, the methane gas explosion occurred in a coal mine in South Khorasan province. The explosion occurred at approximately 9 pm local time (17:30 GMT) on Saturday in the Madanjoo mine, located 540 km (335 miles) southeast of Tehran. At the time of the incident, there were 69 workers in the affected blocks of the mine.

Governor Javad Ghenaatzadeh reported that 22 workers were in block C, while 47 were in block B.
State media initially reported a toll of 30 dead, but this figure has since been revised upward as rescue efforts continue. Earlier reports indicated that 24 people were missing, as cited by the head of Iran’s Red Crescent.
