MUSCAT : Widely celebrated as a pivotal figure in contemporary Omani poetry, Zaher Al-Ghafri’s influence has shaped the nation’s literary landscape.
Born in 1956, al-Ghafri was a key player in Oman’s avant-garde prose poetry movement. His journey took him from the classrooms of Baghdad and Rabat to earning a BA in Philosophy in 1982. Over his illustrious career, he published several acclaimed volumes of poetry, including Azlaf bayda’ (White Hooves) in 1985, al-Samt ya’ti li al-I ‘tiraf (Silence Comes to Confess) in 1991, and Azhar fi bi’r (Flowers in a Well) in 2000, the latter two released in Cologne, Germany.
