Muscat Clearing and Depository signs MoU with Astana Exchange to boost market collaboration

Muscat Clearing and Depository Company (MCDC) has signed a memorandum of understanding with the Central Securities Depository of the Astana International Stock Exchange.

ASTANA: The agreement was signed during the Astana Financial Conference 2024 in Kazakhstan.

The MoU is designed to establish a foundation for effective coordination, sharing expertise, and improving systems for clearing, settlement, and securities registration.

Mohammed bin Saeed Al Abri, CEO of MCDC, signed on behalf of the Omani side, while Ainur Aitkazina, CEO of the Central Securities Depository of Astana, represented the Kazakh side. The agreement focuses on exchanging knowledge in depository and clearing services, aligning with globally recognized standards to enhance both parties’ infrastructure.

Al Abri highlighted that the MoU will improve stock exchange infrastructure and bolster depository services, with a focus on facilitating investment in Oman’s capital market. Ainur Aitkazina expressed optimism that this cooperation will lead to increased investment flows and regional market integration, setting new standards for efficiency and liquidity.

The Muscat Stock Exchange holds 79.88% of MCDC’s capital, with banks, brokerage, and investment companies holding the remaining 20.12%. The MoU marks a significant step toward a more interconnected and dynamic regional market
