MUSCAT : The investments allocated represent 37 percent in fixed telecommunications services, 53.7 percent in mobile telecommunications services, and 9.3 percent in other telecommunications services.

The report highlights that the TRA actively engaged stakeholders throughout the year, presenting 12 public consultation documents to gather feedback and ensure a regulatory environment that adapts to ongoing industry developments.

Significant advancements were made in expanding broadband infrastructure. The number of fifth-generation (5G) stations across the Sultanate reached 5,238, while fiber optic networks extended to cover 773,589 residential units.

In 2023, a total of 377 telecommunications permits were issued. These included 41 licenses for tracking and geolocation services, 6 for Internet of Things (IoT) services, 267 for various telecommunications services, 48 for private networks, 5 for utilizing inactive infrastructure, 3 for regulatory experimental environments, and 2 for voice or video communications via Internet Protocol.

Besides, the TRA issued licenses to 15 new postal service providers, bringing the total number of licensed companies in the sector to 63. This expansion was driven by a steady increase in local and international mail volumes and resulted in the creation of over 1,624 new job opportunities, of which Omanis filled 1,223 job opportunities during 2023.
