Muscat: By the end of July 2024, postpaid mobile phone subscriptions reached a new high of 1,967,248, marking a 12.9% increase compared to last year. In contrast, prepaid mobile subscriptions fell by 4.2%, totalling 5,091,371. This decline was split between 3,841,305 operator-driven subscriptions and 1,250,066 resale subscriptions.
Despite the drop in prepaid subscriptions, the overall mobile phone market remained steady, with a slight 0.1% increase in total mobile subscriptions, reaching 7,058,619 by the end of July 2024.
The growth trend extended to mobile broadband and fixed internet services. Active mobile broadband subscriptions hit 5,871,627, while fixed internet subscriptions rose by 5.9%, totalling 577,240. Notably, fixed broadband subscriptions (over 256 kbps) also grew by 5.9%, reaching 575,538.

However, traditional fixed-line services saw a sharp decline. Fixed-line subscriptions dropped by 22.6% to 438,193, and analogue fixed-line subscriptions plummeted by 72.8% to 62,882. On the flip side, subscriptions to IP-based fixed-line services increased by 14.8%, reaching 318,661.
The statistics also highlighted a 2% decline in digital network channels for integrated services, reaching 49,259 subscriptions. Meanwhile, public telephones remained stable at 6,801, and fixed wireless subscriptions dropped by 22% to 590.
Regionally, Muscat Governorate led in the number of fixed analogue telephone lines with 47.29% of the total, followed by Dhofar Governorate at 10.91% and North Al Batinah Governorate at 10.4%. The remaining governorates accounted for 31.4% of the lines.
