Muscat: Dubai Airport has barred India’s budget airline SpiceJet from allowing passengers to check in due to unpaid dues, forcing the airline to operate empty flights.

According to The Hindu, the airport’s decision has left SpiceJet with no choice but to operate empty flights, marking yet another setback for the struggling airline.

This incident adds to SpiceJet’s growing list of woes. The airline has been grappling with operational challenges despite multiple attempts to raise funds over the past year. The situation has raised concerns within India’s Ministry of Civil Aviation, with a senior official confirming that the ministry is monitoring SpiceJet.

SpiceJet’s troubles have been mounting recently, with the airline having to settle a financial matter with Mumbai airport earlier this month. The settlement came just hours after the airport issued a now-deleted warning on the social media platform X about potential disruptions to SpiceJet’s operations.
