Muscat: Recent statistics reveal that fish production in Oman hit around 219,323 tons by the end of Q1 2024, generating RO 142.6 million.
Khalid bin Salem Al Amri, Head of the Fisheries Investment Department, highlighted the offer for investors: a grace period of up to two years for rental payments, a slew of investment opportunities, and job creation for Omani youth. The ministry is casting a wide net with 24 investment opportunities up for grabs through a public auction. These opportunities span the establishment and management of fish markets, collection centres, shops, marine workshops, and cold storage facilities, amounting to over RO 5 million in a potential investment.
The ministry’s move is not just about increasing production but also enhancing the quality of fish products. The goal is to improve sorting, packaging, and sales processes while providing job opportunities and streamlining the monitoring of fishing seasons.

Additionally, five high-value investment projects, totaling over RO 45 million, will soon be available for bidding on the “Development” platform. These projects include major developments like the fishing port in Liwa and a fish freezing and packaging factory in Dibba.
