Do not burn agricultural waste: Muscat Municipality

The Muscat Municipality is raising awareness to the practice of burning agricultural waste in public places.

Muscat – The Municipality has issued a statement to draw public attention to the ill effects of burning agricultural waste.
“Burning agricultural waste has severe consequences for the environment and public health. To address this, Muscat Municipality is taking decisive action by raising awareness, intensifying monitoring, offering safe disposal options, and enforcing penalties for non-compliance,” the Municipality statement explained.
The risks listed are as follows:
• Health Risks
• Air Pollution
• Soil Degradation
• Fire Hazards
• Landscape Damage
• Community Impact
Muscat Municipality’s efforts to curb its effects include:
• Intensifying Monitoring
• Transport to Landfills (Al Amerat and Barka landfills)
• Raising Community Awareness
• Imposing Fines
