BCCI hits a six: IPL 2023 profits surpasses ₹5000 crore

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has struck gold with the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023, raking in a staggering surplus of Rs 5,120 crore.

Muscat: According to a report from the Economic Times, the BCCI’s surplus from IPL 2023 has more than doubled, soaring to Rs 5,120 crore compared to Rs 2,367 crore in 2022.

BCCI’s total income from IPL 2023 reached Rs 11,769 crore, marking a 78% year-on-year increase. However, this financial windfall was accompanied by a 66% surge in expenditure, which climbed to Rs 6,648 crore, as noted in the BCCI’s annual report for 2022-23.

The media rights deal, which kicked off with IPL 2023, is valued at Rs 48,390 crore for the 2023-27 cycle. Disney Star secured the TV rights in 2021 for Rs 23,575 crore, while Jio Cinema nabbed the digital rights for Rs 23,758 crore. Tata Sons also got in on the action, acquiring the IPL title rights for Rs 2,500 crore.
