MUSCAT : The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources has implemented this measure to protect and replenish kingfish stocks.

Violators of the ban will face fines of up to RO 300, imprisonment ranging from ten days to one month, or both penalties. Additionally, any caught kingfish or their monetary value will be subject to confiscation.
The ban is implemented under the provisions of Ministerial Resolution No. (230/2014 AD) and aims to manage and protect kingfish stocks from overfishing. By regulating the fishing process and reducing fishing pressure, the Ministry seeks to maintain a balance between kingfish stock and fishing efforts.

During this period, all activities related to the fishing, transportation, sale, and export of kingfish are prohibited unless the fish have been registered with the Ministry before the ban’s effective date. Fishermen, fish transporters, and related companies and institutions are required to adhere to this regulation.

The Ministry urges all stakeholders to cooperate fully to support the public interest and avoid legal repercussions. This measure is part of ongoing efforts to ensure sustainable fisheries and the long-term health of marine resources in Oman.
