MUSCAT : The Fertility Centre at Al Wattayah Gynecology and Obstetrics Complex has achieved momentous success with the birth of its first baby girl to a 37-year-old mother after a decade-long struggle with infertility. This milestone comes as the centre, the first government facility dedicated to fertility in Oman, continues to provide hope and advanced medical care to couples facing reproductive challenges.
Dr Rahma bint Salem Al-Ghabshi, Head of the Fertility Centre, shared that this case was among the initial treatments performed since the centre’s opening. The mother, who had been under care for delayed pregnancy and had multiple health conditions, including diabetes and an underactive thyroid, had undergone extensive treatments, including artificial insemination. After thorough monitoring and specialized care at Khoula Maternity Hospital, the pregnancy progressed to a successful cesarean delivery. The baby girl was born weighing 2.56 kilograms and is in good health.
The centre, which opened in February this year, handles over 60 cases weekly and performs between 15 and 20 fertility procedures each week. Dr Al-Ghabshi emphasized the centre’s commitment to collaborating with international fertility experts and pursuing academic recognition to become a key training hub for future fertility specialists. It also plays a crucial role in training female Oman Medical Specialty Board doctors.

The Fertility Centre boasts a highly experienced team, including infertility consultants, embryology technicians, and specialists, all equipped with state-of-the-art technology to offer top-quality, free medical care. It provides services for various fertility issues, including IVF for cases of blocked fallopian tubes, male infertility, and ovulation disorders. The center adheres to internationally recognized protocols with specific criteria to maximize treatment success.
Additionally, the centre offers fertility preservation services for individuals undergoing treatments that may affect their reproductive health, such as cancer patients.
