MUSCAT : Oman’s Ministry of Education has announced a shift in its foreign language curriculum with the release of Ministerial Resolution No. 192/2024. This new resolution effectively cancels the previous Ministerial Resolutions No. (389/2011) and (129/2022), which had established a special committee for overseeing the teaching of French and German.
The new resolution aligns with the Ministry’s strategic goal to expand foreign language education. It coincides with creating the Foreign Languages Curricula Department within the Human Sciences Curricula Development Department at the Directorate General for Curriculum Development. The new department will assume the responsibilities previously held by the now-cancelled committee.
Despite these changes, the Ministry will continue to offer French and German as elective subjects for grades 11-12 in selected schools across the Muscat, North Al Batinah, and South Al Batinah governorates. Additionally, the Ministry plans to introduce new languages, including Chinese, in the coming years, broadening educational opportunities for students.
