Muscat – The move is part of a broader drive to prioritize job opportunities for Omani nationals and curtail Labour Law violations, with the Royal Oman Police (ROP) and judicial officers continuing to intensify their efforts.

Earlier today, August 13, the ROP announced the arrest of 24 Asian and African expatriates in South Al Sharqiyah, indicating its ongoing efforts to control illegal expatriate workforce in the country
It is pertinent to note that a dedicated Inspection Unit, under the Security and Safety Institution, has been established to oversee compliance with labour regulations.

As per Retired Brigadier General Said bin Sulaiman Al Asimi, CEO of the Institution, the unit is empowered to shut down businesses that repeatedly flout Omanisation requirements.

Young Omani job seekers are urged to actively engage in Omanised professions, including those often seen as higher-paying and skilled roles, to showcase their capabilities in the job market.

The Inspection Unit is also set to conduct ongoing inspections to ensure adherence to Omanisation rates and the implementation of government decisions. Recent developments include the granting of judicial police powers to some unit employees through Royal Decree No. 18/2024. This move aims to enhance the unit’s ability to enforce labour laws and Omanisation targets effectively.

Additionally, improvements are underway in labour care facilities, which will feature upgraded security and advanced technology. Personnel involved in inspections and enforcement are receiving comprehensive training to better manage their duties and ensure compliance with the regulations.
