MUSCAT : The guidelines are aimed at reducing the physical strain associated with carrying heavy school bags.

To help students minimize the weight of their bags and avoid potential health issues, the Ministry recommends several key practices:

  1. Students are urged to carefully organize the contents of their bags. Textbooks and materials should be arranged with the heaviest items placed towards the back of the bag and the lighter items towards the front.
  2. Distribute the contents across all pockets of the bag to ensure that the weight is evenly distributed.
  3. Carry their bags on both shoulders rather than slinging it over one shoulder. The bag’s straps should be adjusted so that the bag rests comfortably on the student’s waist and does not hang too low, as this can lead to poor posture and back pain.
  4. Students are advised to place their bags on the floor when waiting for the bus and avoid carrying them on their backs throughout the journey. Similarly, on the bus, the bag should be placed on the bus floor rather than carried on the student’s back.
  5. At school, students should place their bags on the floor or in their designated areas before morning assembly, rather than carrying them around.
