Muscat: Sultan Qaboos University (SQU) and Sohar Port and Freezone have signed an agreement focused on enhancing joint cooperation in research, technology, and academic expertise. The agreement, signed by His Highness Sayyid Dr. Fahd bin Al Julanda Al Said, President of SQU, and Eng. Abdullah bin Khalfan Al Jabri, Chairman of Sohar Port and Freezone, is set to drive sustainable growth and technological advancement.
The collaboration seeks to leverage SQU’s academic excellence and Sohar Port’s operational prowess to address industry challenges and achieve mutual goals. Key focus areas include artificial intelligence, Internet of Things, and self-driving vehicle technologies, aiming to fast-track innovation within Sohar Port and Freezone.
The agreement outlines several avenues for cooperation, including joint research projects that merge practical expertise with academic knowledge and create a sustainable educational environment. It will also involve organizing conferences, workshops, and seminars and enhancing scientific publishing and knowledge sharing.

Additionally, the agreement supports the Oman AI-enhanced Drone Competition, an annual event aimed at training students in drone technologies integrated with artificial intelligence. Students from SQU will benefit from field visits and practical training at Sohar Port and Freezone, gaining firsthand experience in the logistics sector and contributing to industry-driven graduation projects.
