MUSCAT : The Ministry of Labour has officially licensed the Sector Skills Unit for the Engineering Sector, hosted by the Omani Society of Engineers. This new unit monitors sector needs and develops national professional standards to improve workforce efficiency through tailored curricula and training programs.
Eng. Fouad bin Abdullah Al Kindi, Chairman of the Omani Society of Engineers, highlighted that this initiative aligns with Oman Vision 2040, which seeks to position the Sultanate among the world’s top 10 countries in global competitiveness. Engineering skills are pivotal.
The Sector Skills Unit will focus on creating professional standards that define the essential skills for engineering roles. The Ministry of Labour and the Omani Society of Engineers have collaborated since 2016 to audit and evaluate engineering expertise in Oman. This new unit will build comprehensive standards packages to ensure that engineering professionals are well-qualified and up-to-date with industry demands.

The Omani Society of Engineers will also develop and monitor training programs to help engineers maintain excellence and uphold Oman’s strong position in global competitiveness indices.
