MUSCAT : The Ministry of Agricultural Wealth, Fisheries, and Water Resources in Oman has announced a temporary ban on the catching and trading of kingfish, effective from Thursday, August 15, until October 15, 2024. This measure, mandated by Ministerial Resolution No. (230/2014 AD), is designed to safeguard marine ecosystems and ensure sustainable fishing practices.
During these two months, fishermen, fish transporters, companies, and institutions involved in the fishing, transport, purchase, sale, and export of kingfish must adhere to the new regulations. To ensure compliance, all quantities of kingfish must be registered before the ban takes effect. Any trading or exporting of kingfish will be prohibited unless the fish has been properly registered.
The Ministry calls on all stakeholders to cooperate fully with the ban to support the public interest and avoid potential legal consequences and penalties for non-compliance.
