Muscat – Organized by the Ministry of Energy and Minerals in collaboration with the General Secretariat of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), the forum aims to strengthen the role of media in effectively communicating energy sector developments and addressing misconceptions.

The gathering brings together media professionals and energy experts from across the GCC countries to discuss the industry’s challenges and opportunities. A primary focus of the forum is to enhance understanding of the energy sector and its vital role in the region’s economies.
Speaking at the event, Dr. Mohammed Al Rashidi, Director of the GCC Energy Department, emphasized the media’s crucial role as a partner, not just a news disseminator, in accurately portraying the energy sector and countering misinformation.
H.E. Eng. Jamal Al Loughani, Secretary-General of the Organization of Arab Petroleum Exporting Countries (OAPEC), highlighted the significant natural gas reserves held by Arab countries, accounting for over 26 percent of global reserves. He also noted that Arab crude oil production surpassed 27 percent of global production in 2023, with the Gulf countries being major contributors.
Held once every two years under the auspices of the GCC General Secretariat, the forum is structured to strengthen collaboration between petroleum media organisations within the GCC ministries, national companies and regional as well as international media.
The forum has been previously held in Kuwait, Riyadh, Abu Dhabi and Dubai.
