MUSCAT : Oman’s electricity sector experienced a modest boost in production through May 2024, with total output reaching 15,769.6 gigawatt hours—a 1.4% increase from 15,553 gigawatt hours recorded in the same period last year. This growth reflects varying performances across the country’s governorates.

Notably, Muscat Governorate saw a remarkable 46.9% surge in electricity production, totalling 113.9 gigawatts per hour. Dhofar Governorate also made significant gains with a 16.9% increase, reaching 2,304.2 gigawatts per hour. Meanwhile, North Al Sharqiyah and South Al Sharqiyah governorates experienced a 5% rise to 3,679.9 gigawatts per hour. Conversely, Al Wusta Governorate faced a substantial drop of 33.3%, generating only 60.9 gigawatts per hour. Production in Musandam Governorate increased by 3.4% to 155.8 gigawatts per hour.

In contrast to electricity, Oman’s net electricity production decreased by 0.9% to 14,926.9 gigawatt hours. On the water production front, the total output amounted to approximately 205.8 million cubic meters by the end of May 2024, a slight decline from the 210.7 million cubic meters produced during the same period in 2023.
