MUSCAT : According to statistics from the National Intellectual Property Office, the total number of national and international applications reached 13,043, up from 11,742 in 2022.

Ghaleb bin Mohammed Al Saidi, an intellectual property researcher at the Ministry of Commerce, Industry, and Investment Promotion, highlighted that this growth trend in trademark registration has been consistent over the past two years, with increases ranging between 10 to 14 percent annually. In the first half of 2024 alone, approximately 6,109 trademarks were registered, and the number of patents filed reached 428 inventions.
He attributed the surge in trademark registration to the heightened awareness among trademark owners of the need to secure their intellectual property rights in a competitive market. This measure aims to combat fraud, manipulation, and counterfeiting. He emphasized that applications are now processed through the ‘Oman Business Platform.
He also underscored the importance of trademark registration for protecting creators’ rights, preventing commercial fraud, and distinguishing goods or services in the marketplace.
The increased interest in trademark registration in Oman signifies a growing recognition of the role of intellectual property in the business sector, as noted by the Ministry of Commerce, Industry, and Investment Promotion.
