MUSCAT : This initiative aims to ensure that individuals applying for residency permits are thoroughly screened for latent TB, which, while not currently active, can develop into a more serious condition if left untreated.
The ministry listed out the screening process as follows:
- Applicants will need to provide a blood sample at an accredited private clinic.
- If the blood test result is positive for latent TB, individuals will be required to undergo a chest X-ray at an accredited private center.
- Following the chest X-ray, applicants will visit a government Medical Fitness Center for a physician’s evaluation.
- If necessary, the Ministry of Health will provide free treatment for latent TB.
“Your commitment to completing latent tuberculosis screening helps you avoid accountability by the relevant authorities,” states the ministry announcement.
