MUSCAT : As per the statement issued by the ministry, these measures, aimed to ensure that Omanis can access suitable professions and jobs, will come into effect in September.
Key decisions are as follows:
- All units of the state’s administrative apparatus and government companies are obliged not to contract private sector establishments that do not adhere to the Omanisation percentages set by the government. Private sector establishments must obtain an electronic certificate from the Ministry of Labour proving they meet work standards and requirements, including the prescribed Omanisation percentages.
- Adding more than 30 new professions to the list of professions prohibited from being practiced by non-Omanis.
- Obligating all private sector establishments to employ at least one Omani in suitable professions and jobs, according to forthcoming regulations from the Ministry.
- Approval of a financial package to support the Ministry’s initiatives aimed at increasing Omanisation rates.
- Reviewing the decision on work permit fees to ensure that private sector establishments committed to Omanisation rates are incentivized and that fees are doubled for establishments that do not comply.
- Intensifying follow-up and inspection campaigns to ensure private sector establishments’ compliance with the decisions regulating the labor market.
The Ministry of Labour will provide detailed explanations of these decisions before they come into effect next September. All parties are urged to cooperate to serve the public interest and support the national workforce.
