MUSCAT : Khalid bin Mohammed Al Zubair, Chairman of the Oman Olympic Committee and Head of the Omani Mission to the Paris 2024 Summer Olympics, highlighted the significance of Oman’s participation in this prestigious event. This year’s participation marks a continuation of Oman’s Olympic journey that began in 1984, aiming to enhance the country’s presence and represent its athletes honourably on the global stage.

“The Olympic Games are among the most important sporting events that athletes seek to be present in and achieve the best records and personal numbers. They are also an ideal and fertile environment in which to benefit from experiences, interact with the best-ranked players from different countries of the world, and compete in the best sports facilities and structures prepared according to the highest international standards and levels. I look forward to all athletes achieving the maximum technical benefit from this unique Olympic participation and coming out with the highest technical gains, with the need to exert more efforts and continue the continuous technical giving with the aim of reaching the podiums in various sports events,” said Al Zubair.

The Paris 2024 Olympics will officially open on Friday evening with a grand ceremony on the Seine River in Paris. Dignitaries including His Excellency Basil bin Ahmed Al Rawas, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth for Sports and Youth, His Excellency Ambassador Ahmed bin Mohammed Al Araimi, Ambassador of Oman to France, and Khalid bin Mohammed Al Zubair will be in attendance.

Oman’s administrative mission has meticulously prepared for the athletes’ arrival and participation. The athletics and swimming teams are set to arrive tomorrow evening, while the national shooting team will arrive earlier in the day.

Shooter Saeed bin Ali Al Khatri will lead Oman’s initial participation, competing in the preliminary qualification for the trap shooting category at the Chateauroux Shooting Center next Monday and Tuesday. Following him, swimmer Issa Al-Adawi will compete in the 100-meter freestyle swimming event on Tuesday at the Paris Aquatics Center. Runner Mazoon Al-Alawi, a seasoned Olympian, will race in the 100-meter event on August 2. Ali Al-Balushi will make his Olympic debut in the same category on August 3 at the Stade de France.
