Muscat – The Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion (MoCIIP), in collaboration with Oman Customs, has announced the implementation of Ministerial Decision No. 519/2022, which prohibits the import of plastic bags into Oman.
The announcement No. 6/2024 targets industrial and commercial establishments, informing them that the regulation will come into effect on Sunday, September 1, 2024.
The announcement also highlights the Ministry’s commitment to regulate the market concerning plastic bag. The ban aims to address the environmental impact of plastic bags and promote sustainable practices.
The Ministerial Decision No. 519/2022 stipulates that companies, establishments, and individuals are banned from importing plastic bags.
Article 2 of the decision states that an administrative fine of RO 1,000 shall be imposed on anyone who violates the provisions of this decision, and it shall be doubled if the violation is repeated.
