Oman’s TRA streamlines telecom device regulations, boosts SME participation

The Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) has implemented new regulation aimed at simplifying procedures and empowering small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in the telecom device market.

MUSCAT : The TRA has issued Decision No. 1152/2/19/2024-12, which amends the regulations and approval list for telecommunications devices.

The new decision aims to empower small and medium enterprises and develop a flexible regulatory environment. It provides clear guidelines for obtaining permits to import telecommunications devices for commercial purposes, approval certificates, and customs release permissions from the TRA.

Key amendments include:

  • Setting the validity period for the approval certificate at four years, with the possibility of renewal for similar periods.
  • Implementing special procedures for SMEs holding an Entrepreneurship Card.
  • Conducting a comprehensive review of fees, which may be modified, reduced, or exempted.
  • Creating an adaptable regulatory environment that keeps pace with industry advancements

    Through this decision, the TRA is ensuring simpler procedures that will benefit all stakeholders, including importers, manufacturers, users, and related businesses. A more adaptable regulatory framework can also help ensure the market remains efficient and responsive to innovation.
