The Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology is leading the effort to modernize the road network in line with the latest international technical standards.

One of the standout projects is the Arjot-Sarfit road in the Wilayat of Dhalkut, which includes slope stabilization and lane enhancements. With a total investment of RO 11 million, the project is 79 per cent complete and expected to be finished by the end of 2024.

Another significant development is the Harweeb-Al Mazyouna-Miten road project, which spans 210 kilometers and is crucial for improving traffic flow and boosting commercial and tourism activities. Currently, the project is 15.22 per cent complete, costing RO 30 million.

In Maqshin, a 170-kilometre paved road is underway, with over 15 per cent of the work completed. This project, valued at approximately RO 13 million, aims to enhance connectivity within the Wilayat and is scheduled for completion by the end of 2026.

Several future projects are in the pipeline. The design phase for the Saih Al Khairat-Al Shisr Road and the Shahab Asaib-Niyabat road is complete, while the Al Mughsail Bridge in Salalah and the Raysut-Al Mughsail Road dualization project are nearing the final approval stages.

The Haima-Thumrait Road dualization project, spanning approximately 400 kilometres, is in its final stages of technical and financial analysis. This extensive project aims to bolster the region’s infrastructure and safety further.
