MUSCAT : This campaign is part of a larger project to plant a total of 60,000 wild trees throughout the year.

Hatem bin Salem Al Mahri, Head of the Natural Reserves Department at the Directorate, highlighted the campaign’s objectives. He stated: “The campaign will include planting 500 frankincense trees today within the Frankincense Garden in the Mudam area in Raysut, Salalah. Additionally, 9,500 wild trees will be planted in the coming period in the in Rakhyut, featuring species such as wild fig, cactus, and sidr trees.”

Al Mahri added, “This campaign aligns with the Environment Authority’s plans and programs to preserve local plants, conserve natural resources, and increase vegetation cover in natural and pastoral areas in Dhofar Governorate. This initiative is also part of the national campaign to plant 10 million trees.”

Dhofar Governorate is renowned for its rich biodiversity, boasting approximately 750 species of wild plants that cover the mountain tops and spread across valleys and plains. The Environment Authority is implementing several measures to protect and propagate these wild plants. These efforts include establishing tree nurseries, conducting protected cultivation operations, planting and scattering seeds in wild areas, and pruning and protecting old trees.
