MUSCAT : Covering an area of about 16,000 square meters, the project, being built at a cost of over RO 319,000, is expected to be finished by the end of 2024.

Supervised by the office of the Governor of South Al Batinah, the market will feature 27 shops, cafes, a mosque, and parking lots. Additionally, it will include tree-planted areas, multiple seating areas, and various services catering to tourists and visitors.

Saud bin Said Al Ma’awali, Deputy Chairman of the Municipal Council in South Al Batinah Governorate, representing Wadi Al Ma’awil, stated that the market’s strategic location on the main street will make it an economic hub attracting tourists and visitors from neighboring wilayats such as Barka and Nakhal.

It will also feature a fish market adjacent, which will be equipped with central air conditioning and other consumer-friendly services. Furthermore, the nearby fruit and vegetable markets, recently offered to an investor, will soon become operational. Preparations are also underway for a new weekly market called the ‘Friday Market’, which will occupy approximately 11,000 square meters of land next to the new market.

Al Ma’awali emphasized that the consolidation of the new market, Friday market, and fish, fruit, and vegetable markets in one location will enhance the economic status of Wadi Al Ma’awil and neighboring areas. This arrangement will also provide a pleasant shopping experience for visitors, create opportunities for small and medium enterprises and productive families to display their products more effectively, and showcase traditional industries and handicrafts unique to Wadi Al Ma’awil.
