Muscat – This historic market will be relocating its entire operation to the new Silal Market in Khazaen Economic City on June 29.

The Muscat Municipality announced the move in a circular issued in May. This marks the end of an era for the market, which has served as a vital center of commerce for nearly three decades.

The Muscat Municipality has outlined a detailed handover schedule to ensure a smooth transition. As per the set schedules, various units — including restaurants, cafes, sorting warehouses, dry stores, and commercial shops — began transitioning to the new location between May 5 and June 9. This move also included the transfer of wholesale market cold stores, central cold storage, onion and potato sheds, and administrative offices.

The one-stop inspection platform was to be operational by June 22, marking the transfer of customs inspection and agricultural quarantine activities from the Mawaleh Market to the Silal Market.
It is pertinent to note that Mawaleh Market has been a bustling hub for traders and customers since 1997, but the relocation aims to meet the growing demand and modern requirements.

The market will provide world-class infrastructure and facilities and adopt best international practices in infrastructure development, storage, packaging, handling, transportation, parking, and value-added services. The central market will also provide complete warehousing and cold storage logistics solutions for multiple products such as fruits, vegetables, fish, and meat.
