Muscat: Musandam Governorate is experiencing a surge in development, which is highlighted by a variety of infrastructure and tourism projects. His Excellency Sayyid Ibrahim bin Saeed Al Busaidi, Governor of Musandam, revealed that significant progress had been made in urban development across residential areas and city centres. Numerous projects are underway, with some nearing completion and others in the consulting study phase.

The Governorate Development Program allocated 20 million Omani riyals to these initiatives over the current five-year plan. One notable project is the development of the fishing port in Dibba, which has reached a 75 per cent completion rate and is set to be finished in the first half of next year. This multi-purpose port, managed by the Ministry of Agricultural Wealth, Fisheries, and Water Resources, is expected to contribute significantly to the local economy.

The Dibba – Lima – Khasab road project, which began earlier this year, has already seen over 55 kilometres of the preliminary road constructed. This project is crucial for facilitating traffic and boosting tourism between Musandam’s states.

Progress is also evident in the new Khasab Airport project, with the Civil Aviation Authority awarding several tenders for soil, wind, and design studies. The airport, designed to accommodate 500,000 passengers, is expected to be operational during the eleventh five-year plan.

Khasab Port is undergoing a transformation as well. The company awarded the port’s management and development and is currently preparing feasibility studies, which are set to conclude in October 2024. Upon agreement, a long-term management contract will be signed to further enhance the port’s operations.

In tourism, investment lands have been allocated in Bukha, Madha, and Dibba. The Omran Group is re-establishing a resort in Dibba, while significant progress is being made on the Ras al-Amud Resort in Khasab. Additionally, a new resort by Club Med in Khasab is slated for completion in 2028.

Waterfront development is progressing, with the Khasab waterfront, known as Bassa Beach, 95 per cent complete and expected to be fully operational by August. Dibba and Buja waterfronts are also advancing, with completion rates of 50 per cent and 40 per cent, respectively. The Lima waterfront is in the design stage.

Environmental conservation is a priority, with a royal decree establishing the National Natural Park Reserve in Musandam. This initiative aims to balance development with the protection of marine life and migratory birds, promoting environmentally friendly investments.

The Governor’s Office, alongside government institutions, actively engages with the community and private sector to enhance the governorate’s development. The Musandam International Investment Company is making significant local investments, creating jobs, and adding value across various sectors.

The Small and Medium Enterprises Development Authority branch and a new business center opened last May to foster entrepreneurship and economic growth. The health sector is also seeing improvements, with Khasab Hospital and Madha Hospital expected to provide services within the current five-year plan.
