Muscat: Through intensive specialized training and continuous follow-up, the Council is dedicated to developing a solid base of medical education programs that integrate science with creativity and innovation.

Focused on raising the quality of advanced medical training, the Council ensures that all necessary human and technical resources are available. This commitment aims to graduate doctors with academic and training levels comparable to those in developed countries. The excellence and seriousness of Omani medical cadres have been recognized internationally, achieving advanced positions in medical scientific research.

To align with “Oman Vision 2040,” the Council is working on five-year goals (2021-2025), which include establishing national standards for medical training programs, enabling trainee doctors to contribute innovative solutions to health system challenges, and developing an advanced medical education system characterized by governance and leadership.

Dr. Fatima bint Muhammad Al-Ajamiya, CEO of the Omani Council for Medical Specialties, affirmed the Council’s dedication to strategic projects that align with national priorities in health, private sector investment, and international cooperation. Currently, the Council is implementing 31 projects and initiatives, including those integrated with the Ministry of Health and other relevant authorities.

The Council offers 20 specialized training programs covering fields such as dermatology, emergency medicine, family medicine, internal medicine, neurology, and paediatrics, with 705 doctors currently enrolled. Since its inception, the Council has graduated 1,364 doctors from various speciality and fellowship programs.

The Council’s Medical Simulation and Innovation Center, established in 2013, plays a crucial role in improving the skills of health staff through training, research, and innovation, reducing the financial and moral burden while enhancing patient care. The Center has been recognized with multiple awards for its innovative use of advanced technologies in medical education.

One of the center’s most important achievements is that it received the award for the best initiative in “Innovation and Employment of Advanced Technologies” in the Digital Excellence Awards in the Government Sector, within the activities of the COMEX International Technology Exhibition for the year 2024. Last year, 2023, it received two awards in the “Innovation” and “3D Printer” categories.

Furthermore, the Council has strengthened international relations, establishing 46 international and 10 local cooperation programs. Over 1,000 doctors have been sent abroad for speciality and fellowship programs since 2009, with ongoing collaborations with leading medical institutions in countries such as Canada, France, and the United States.

The Omani Council for Medical Specialties continues to support projects that address the needs of the health sector, including the establishment of stroke treatment units and the Sultan Qaboos Integrated Center for Cancer Treatment and Research.
