MUSCAT : The Ministry of Health calls for B-positive platelet donors to contribute at the Central Blood Bank in Bousher. Platelet donation is a specialized process where blood cells are separated, and platelets are collected in designated bags. The procedure takes 45-60 minutes and involves returning the remaining blood components to the donor’s body.

To be eligible for platelet donation, donors must meet specific criteria: they should be in good health, weigh over 50 kg, have normal haemoglobin levels, and be aged between 18 and 60. Additionally, donors must have given blood at least twice in the past two years without complications, and it should be more than a month since their last blood donation. Donors should also avoid aspirin or similar pain relievers containing aspirin for 10 days before donating.

Platelet donations can be made every 15 days, with donation times available from Saturday to Thursday between 8 AM and 6 PM and on Fridays from 8 AM to 2 PM. Each day, the Central Blood Bank aims to collect from at least 10 donors to meet the ongoing need for platelets, which are crucial for patients undergoing treatments such as chemotherapy, surgeries, and emergency care.

For inquiries or to schedule a donation appointment, please contact 94555648.
