Muscat: Spanning from Dhalkut to Mirbat, this seasonal transformation turns the Dhofar Governorate into a prime destination for both local and international tourists until September 21.

The Dhofar fall season is marked by its cloudy, rainy atmosphere and moderate temperatures, which drop further in the fog-covered high mountainous areas. This climate, coupled with continuous light rain and drizzle, blankets the region’s mountains and plains in vibrant green, making it an irresistible draw for visitors.

Tourists flock to the governorate’s numerous natural attractions, including its famous springs like Razat, Hamran, Garziz, Sahelnot, and Tobruk. As rainfall peaks in August, stunning waterfalls such as Darbat, Athum, Kor, Jujib, and Al-Houta in Rakhyut Province come to life, enhancing the region’s scenic beauty.

Dhofar’s rich diversity extends beyond its landscapes to include archaeological sites on the World Heritage List, such as Al Baleed and Samharam Archaeological Parks, the Land of Frankincense Museum, and historical forts in Rakhyut, Taqah, Mirbat, and Sadah. The region’s unique terrain encompasses marine, agricultural, mountainous, and desert environments, offering a plethora of experiences for all types of tourists.

Salalah, the heart of Dhofar, sees a surge in commercial activity during this season. Visitors indulge in traditional products like frankincense, incense, silver, pottery, and Omani sweets and savour traditional Omani cuisine at local restaurants. The Salalah Plain is renowned for its tropical agricultural produce, including coconuts, bananas, favai, and sugarcane.

Government and private sectors collaborate annually to enhance tourist facilities and services, ensuring a comfortable and enjoyable stay for all. Last year’s fall season witnessed a significant 18.4% increase in visitors, totalling approximately 962,000 tourists. Visitor spending during the season reached an impressive RO 103 million, as reported by the National Center for Statistics and Information.
